Why did you join the Leadership Fellowship?
I joined the Leadership Fellow because it was a chance for me to gain personal insight and experience about the issues my community faces in terms of identity and representation. I knew it was time to make efforts in changing the current ways our system oppresses marginalized communities by empowering, representing, and educating my community about the different ways we can all make a difference.
What is your favorite quality about your host-site organization?
My favorite quality about my host-site organization is that the Civic Council works really hard in advancing the Arab American community by providing them with the right information about being actively engaged. I like how my organization focuses on encouraging Arab Americans civic participation through community organizing, advocacy, public policy, leadership development, cultural outreach, and cultivating partnerships with other communities.
What is your favorite part overall about the fellowship?
My favorite part is being able to get to know my community on a more personal level so I can understand their issues and concerns and eventually find the right resources to make a change
How does this program fit into your future plans?
In the future, I plan on continuing being an activist and organizer in my community and also influence policy through public policy. I know that this program will provide me with the right skill set and experience for me to be able to pursue a career in helping Arab American communities
What is a personal goal that you would like to achieve?
I would like to attain as much knowledge possible about politics, governments, and all different communities. I would also like to achieve registering a large amount of Arab American citizens to vote and increase voter turnout in the Arab American Communities for the upcoming 2020 election.
What is a professional goal that you would like to achieve?
I would like to participate effectively in policy and political discussion as citizens and as paraprofessionals in a variety of fields and continue working with nonprofits.
Why do you think programs like this are important?
These programs are the only programs that are actually invested in the community on a grassroots level and I think it is important because this is the most effective way to reach our community about being actively involved in campaigns, in getting to know your elected officials, and to empower and represent the community in a positive light.
How do you plan to use the skills and experiences you gain through this fellowship, in the future?
I plan to take on all the skills I attain through this fellowship and use them towards getting into graduate school and getting a career. I want o use this skillset to continue reaching out and organizing in my own community so that I can help continue empowering Arab Americans.
