Build Detroit's first outdoor fitness center at Clark Park
NNAAC is partnering with Healthy Detroit and the AmeriCorps Urban Safety Project at Wayne State University’s Center for Urban Studies to develop the first outdoor Health Park in the city of Detroit at Clark Park.
Volunteers will join together for the groundbreaking of this innovative new outdoor gym, where in addition to building an outdoor fitness center, activities will include installing two beach volleyball courts, renovating the soccer and baseball fields, inserting new park benches and boarding up abandoned houses neighboring Clark Park.
Since 2005, Service Day has fostered a culture of leadership and community engagement through service and volunteerism. Under its motto, “Serving Communities, Connecting People,” Service Day brings together Arab Americans and non-Arabs from across the country to connect with friends and neighbors for a day of giving back.
Over the past decade, more than 9,000 volunteers have joined together for more than 36,000 hours of service to improve the communities in which we live and work. This year, we expect around 400 volunteers for Metro-Detroit’s massive local project alone.
Check-in begins at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, with the project at Clark Park running until 4:00 p.m.
