NNAAC among 25 groups demanding elected leaders stand in support of refugees

The National Network for Arab American Communities (NNAAC), its member organizations and the undersigned groups and individuals stand together in uniting our communities against hate and violence. We grieve for the victims of the recent attacks in Paris, Beirut, Baghdad and across the world and wish peace for all.

As community-based human service, social justice and arts organizations and individuals, we are intimately involved in the resettlement efforts for refugees from across the world. Our role is to provide for those in need, especially displaced peoples, who are overwhelmingly underserved and disproportionately victims of violence.  These communities have long been embedded into the fabric of this country, and have contributed to the success of our nation in innumerable ways. Recent statements by national and state leaders regarding their refusal to accept Syrian refugees in specific states across the U.S. are disappointing and dangerous, and do not do justice to the millions of refugees and immigrants who have made this country their home. Placing blame on innocent individuals and families, who are themselves victims of the same terror and violence, goes against fundamental American values.

We call on individuals and organizations across the country to join us in elevating the voices of the refugee community. We urge you to ask your local, state and national elected leaders to halt their divisive rhetoric and actions that will ultimately negatively impact us all.
